Professor Armando Marques Guedes is a distinguished academic, diplomat, and anthropologist with a prolific career spanning several decades. Born on September 9, 1952, in Lisbon, Portugal, Professor Marques Guedes pursued his early education in administration at the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas (ISCSP), University of Lisbon, graduating in 1975. He furthered his studies in social anthropology, obtaining a B.Sc. (Honours) in 1976 and an M.Phil. in 1980 from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Additionally, he earned a Diplôme en Anthropologie Sociale from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris in 1978.
His academic journey led him to conduct intensive fieldwork among the Atta hunter-gatherer communities in the Philippines, focusing on their religious and political structures. This research culminated in a summa cum laude doctorate in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL). He later achieved his Tenure in Law at the NOVA School of Law (NSL), UNL.
