Professor Michele Farisco is a distinguished Italian philosopher and researcher renowned for his interdisciplinary work at the intersection of philosophy, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence. His extensive academic background, prolific publications, and leadership roles have significantly contributed to the fields of neuroethics and the philosophy of consciousness.​

Professor Farisco holds a Master's degree in Philosophy, a Ph.D. in Ethics and Anthropology, a Master's in Biolaw, and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Philosophy. In 2015, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Moral Philosophy in Italy. ​

At Uppsala University, Professor Farisco is a key member of the Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics (CRB), where he collaborates with neuroscientists, AI researchers, and clinicians to develop indicators of consciousness for diagnosing patients and recognizing consciousness in animals and machines. His research spans various topics, including posthuman philosophy, ethical and legal implications of genetics and neuroscience, consciousness (with a focus on disorders of consciousness), addiction, artificial intelligence, and neuroethics. ​

Professor Farisco has authored several books and numerous articles in both national and international publications. Notable among his works is the book "Neurotechnology and Direct Brain Communication: New insights and responsibilities concerning speechless but communicative subjects," which examines the ethical and legal implications of neurotechnological advancements. ​

In addition to his role at Uppsala University, Professor Farisco serves as the Head of the Bioethics Unit at Biogem, the Molecular Biology and Genetics Research Institute in Italy. He is also a member of the Ethics & Society Program in the European Human Brain Project, contributing to research in philosophy and neuroethics.

Professor Farisco's dedication to research and academia has been recognized through various accolades, including his appointment as Associate Professor of Moral Philosophy in Italy in 2015. ​
